Mission

Initiatives for Human Development is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering the benefits of evidenced-based alcohol and substance abuse prevention programs to businesses, organizations, communities, schools and recovery support services in the Northeast.

For more than 30 years, IHD has remained on the forefront of prevention science, designing and delivering innovative, hands-on prevention programs that produce measurable results. Each of our prevention initiatives deploys the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), a data-driven process developed and recommended by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Sustainabiliy and cultural confidence

SPF aims to create a "prevention environment" where the negative consequences of alcohol and substance abuse are clearly understood — and where people are motivated to reduce and prevent its occurrence.

IHD is managed and staff by Certified Prevention Specialists, members of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and graduates of the CADCA National Coalition Institute. Our experience includes a wide range of prevention activities, from developing model programs for teens and parents, to reducing underage drinking in schools and communities, to advocating successfully for tougher alcohol-related State legislation and local ordinances.

Driven by mission not profit, our goal is to help our clients capture the benefits of alcohol and substance abuse prevention programs — to make your business, organization, school or community a safer, healthier place to work and live.
